[Yemen] The Yemeni Ibex Day
Yahya-2
Yemeni Ibex Day or in Arabic "يوم الوعل اليمني".
On January 22nd, Yemenis celebrate Ibex Day, and through this celebration, they commemorate ancient Yemeni civilization and its historical and political characteristics.
The ibex is the animal most represented in archaeological inscriptions, and in ancient Yemeni civilization, it was considered a political symbol of the Yemeni state.
Yemenis chose the ibex as a historical symbol of the Yemeni state because of the Yemeni state's tendency toward pride and loftiness, which characterizes the ibex through its horns and their curvature, resembling the arc of the crescent moon. The ibex symbolized political and psychological meanings, as well as pride, strength, and dignity. It does not eat waste and grazes where others cannot reach it. It also symbolizes defiance and fortification, as it inhabits high places and the policy of historical Yemeni states was to build towering castles and fortresses to protect cities, and their traces can still be seen today.
